Here are some of the our most frequently asked questions:

What level of first aid training do I need?
The level of training you need can be determined by answering the following three questions;
      1. Does my school or workplace require a specific level of training?
      2. Does my governing body require a specific level of training?
      3. What types of emergencies do I want to be prepared to respond to?
Answering these questions will help best determine if you want or need Standard, Emergency, or CPR-only training. We always recommend Standard First Aid with CPR Level C which meets most school and workplace requirements. Health Care Providers (HCP) need to take Basic Life Support (BLS). BLS certification requires participants register for BLS not in conjunction with Standard or Emergency First Aid courses.
First aid refers to the care provided to an injured person until professional medical care can be obtained. CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation which involves the combination of rescue breathes and chest compressions. CPR is done to circulates blood that contains oxygen to vital organs in a person suffering from cardiac arrest when the heart and breathing have stopped. In a Standard or Emergency first aid course, there is a component of CPR training recognized by WSIB. Alternatively, CPR can be taken as a stand-alone course.
In order to qualify for a re-certification course, you must meet the following criteria;
  1. A valid unexpired certificate; we are accepting expired certificates within 1 month of expiry.
  2. Your certificate must have been issued by a WSIB-approved provider
  3. Standard First Aid CPR AED can only be recertified once.
Who should be contacted if there are problems with the online course?
We advise you contact the Heart & Stroke Foundation directly with any technical issues for health care provider courses. If you have not received the PIN to access the HSF Portal, please contact us by phone or send us an email. For first aid and CPR courses, you can contact us directly if you are experiencing any difficulties with the online modules. Please review the FAQ section on our blended programs page.
PLEASE NOTE: You can not fail the online portion for first aid course since there is no limit to the number of times you can take each module. Each module has a test, if you do not pass the test, you will be asked to review the module again and then you can re-challenge the module test. You cannot move onto a new module until you have successfully completed the module test. However, it is possible to be unsuccessful with e-learning modules for the BLS, ACLS & PALS courses.
The time it takes to complete online modules for First Aid and CPR/AED training can vary depending on the type of program and the learner. However, on average, the online modules for Emergency First Aid & CPR AED can take anywhere from 3 to 4 hours. The Standard First Aid & CPR AED program is more comprehensive and can take 5-7 hours.

What are the different levels of CPR certification?
Level C courses teach first aid and/or CPR for adults, children and infants. In our commitment to serve the community, VIVICPR offers at minimum Level C courses to ensure people receiving training to provide first aid and/or CPR to all age groups.

Level HCP courses also teach first aid and/or CPR, plus additional information for Health Care Providers. The course is designed for doctors, nurses, paramedics, and others health care professionals. In addition to the contents in Level C, this course also teaches Bag-Valve Mask (BVM), two-rescuer CPR, and the pulse check.

Your first aid certificate will last for three years, including the CPR and AED certification. After three years, you will need to take a recertification course.  Health care providers may require annual recertification.

You will receive a course completion card upon successful completion of the course. You will receive a digital certificate through the The Heart & Stroke Foundation website within 3-4 days of successful course completion.

Note: The certificates meet the requirements of Occupational Safety and Health regulations and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, and are recognized by employers, schools and safety organizations throughout Canada.
